My heart remains broken. The loss from the ongoing CA fires is too close, too personal, too great. Los Angeles is my home, and despite its expanse, it often feels intimately small. Every connection reveals another thread woven into this shared tragedy, no matter how minor it may seem.
The Waldorf community is even more tightly knit, and in this moment of need, both Westside Waldorf School and Pasadena Waldorf School need our support.
While most words continue to elude me, I will keep my head, heart, and hands busy, sheltering, gathering, donating. I hope you can do the same.
Recently, a first grader hugged me twelve times with the joy of a thousand rainbows when they finished knitting their very first project (a kitty!). They were absolutely beaming. The pride and joy of a small child is incredibly infectious. It made me think about all the glimmers I have been lucky to witness and be a part of over my many years as a teacher. I received messages from many of you sharing your own experiences too! You get it! ✨🌈✨

The entire 4th grade cross stitch process is something special, but this particular part is always everyone’s most favorite day. We sit in a circle around our big hoop of threads to tell our color stories and carefully choose our threads. Why is it so fun having our very own little ring of colors? 🌈
4th graders really need to love their cross stitch to slowly work on them stitch by stitch and this little ring always seals the deal! 🪡

Inspired by my work with @sunspritehandwork, this year, my 4th graders spent some silent, reverent time with their paints to create these beautiful strokes of color. Then we told each other the stories of our paintings. There are sparkling gemstones brewing on the ocean floor, super blooms of wildflowers in the canyons, a dragon spreading its wings. I wish I could tell you every story. These will be the blueprints for our cross stitch work! 🎨

A solstice gift for you ☀️
Happy solstice! The sun is out and the fog has disappeared even here on the coast. Which means it’s the perfect time to tuck some handwork in your bag and head outside. Along the way, keep your eyes open for little bit of nature that you can dye with. This yarn was sun dyed with just a handful of oxalis and water! After, I played with alkaline baths and was rewarded with the most fiery oranges!

New naturally dyed, 100% organic wool threads! 🪡
This year we’ve played with different threads in our cross stitch and embroidery work. Pearl cotton, silk threads, commercially dyed, naturally dyed. We loved them all, but one thing I wished for most was an affordable, naturally dyed option.
Just our luck, @dmc_embroidery introduced the best of both worlds with their Eco Vita naturally dyed organic wool threads! The colors are absolutely stunning and work beautifully for both cross stitch and embroidery. Just look at how these colors practically sing! 🌸🌿🌼
